“Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer in Braiding Sweetgrass
Let us come together and spend some time deepening our connection to the more-than-human world by paying close attention to late summer grasses. During this time of year the earth is abundant with seeds, nuts and berries. Grasses turn from green to gold and seeds ripen on stems.
In the face of climate change we can sometimes feel overwhelmed and hopeless. This special online summer grasses nature journaling workshop will help you to nurture your reciprocal relationship with nature through gratitude, nature journaling and action.
This workshop is for anyone curious about deepening their relationship with nature. Information about grasses focusses on grasses in the UK but the structure of the nature journaling prompts can be used in any context. This workshop was recorded live on 27 August 2021.

What you will need
- some summer grasses that you are particularly drawn to
- pens and pencils
- paper
- ruler
- sharpener
- rubber
What's you'll do in the workshop
- Gratitude - we will spend a few minutes at the start of our time together thanking the earth for her gifts. This practice comes from the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations or Iroquois) people who say a Thanksgiving Address at the start of each of their gatherings to thank the land for its generosity.
- Nature journaling - I will guide you through a series of nature journaling prompts that will get you looking at your summer grasses with considered attention, curiosity and wonder. As we journal I will speak about some of the scientific stories I have discovered about summer grasses.
- Action - we will spend 5-10 minutes at the end of the workshop giving back to the earth by doing one thing to prevent further climate change. I will send you a few options in advance.
You'll also get...
Access to The Stardust Society, a free community group hosted on Facebook exclusively for we are stardust customers. This generous, supportive community is a space for us to continue to rewild our souls and deepen our relationship with nature through curiosity, creativity and connection. You will be sent a link to the Facebook group at the end of the workshop.
